Juan Alero
Juan Alero is a man in an old age of his kin, since most of them die, fighting each other before living this long. He has lived, loved, laughed and cried himself trough hundreds of years now, and is sure not going to stop there. No because Juan loves life, and if there's one thing he loves more than life, it must be books. Yes, Juan loves books, stories and tales, systems, facts; they hold every secret worth writing down. So it is no wonder Juan works as a Librarian now is it? After all, Juan is a cast off from his clan, yes, he is no longer a wolf as they might say, he is now calm and quiet, living his life surrounded by all that knowledge, no more hunger for warm flesh.
For what is Juan? He's a werewolf, nearby immortal and nearly last of his kin.
Now werewolves still exists, but not many of Juan's kin is left, no, they all want to butcher and slaughter, all wish to eat and fester in the soft bosom of a woman or the strong arms of a man. They are all looking for salvation or brutish rampage; none of them sit down any more, like Juan, and observe their life, their accomplishments and their achievements. No they all think with their stomachs and their lust for flesh. Their hunger.
And what is a werewolf really then hmm? Werewolves, also known as lycanthropes or wolfmen, are mythological humans with the ability to shapeshift into wolves or wolf-like creatures, either purposely, being bitten by another werewolf or after being placed under a curse. Many people have associated the transformation with the appearance of the full moon; however, there is evidence that the transformation can happen under very stressful situations for the subject of this curse, and that a very powerful Lycan can force this transformation upon himself or his cursed children.
Now where is this man born? Venice was his home in the end of the eleventh century, he was born Italian but his feet have traveled many places, and his nationality is no more Italian than anything else. He is a traveler indeed, a pedestrian.
Aaah and that sure is an interesting question good sir, his age? Well Juan was born a wolf-man, therefore he ages only limited compared to our lives, he is older than most, but who counts eh? He is born at the end of the eleventh century, and his stage of aging could be qualified as in his mid twenties, yes, because he is one of those, rare left, born what he is.
His work is many, after employed by the Headmistress, a woman he found himself fascinated by when he was told stories of her being; a fascination that doesn't happen often might I add; he took on him the role as both Librarian and teacher. His classes a few since not many take part of his kind of arts, no, the youths today only wishes clear success and that quickly, no one takes the time to sit down and enjoy the simple arts of writing, because that is his subject for class, writing, both novels and poetry, songs and essays. He is a mentor for his few students, but he is hated by those who want everything to go fast. Because Juan never rushes anything.
Currently Juan has found a quiet classroom at the school and made his own. Here he lives and sleeps, it has become his office and since the room wasn't being used, no one would mind his comfortable little cave being there. It also provides a good help at night, he is nearby and can therefore help patrol the corridors and catch the snooping students.
His love life is a secret, actually Juan has loved a few in his life, but his love is hardly earthly, he loves with his soul and hardly ever with his flesh. His is an attractive male, and some women have felt his warm arms around them, but his soul loves men as well as women.
Now, if you ever encounter this young man, you will first notice his raven black hair. The color of a clouded night, or coal, yes, coal would be the most fitting color to describe this hair. It is long, elegantly placed in a fitting ponytail. Because everything about him is indeed elegant. His eyes, green, strange eyes burns with such a fire, and it is hard not to glance. His entire soul is to be found in those eyes, as well as his life and memories. Those eyes hide his person, and only a small, selected crowd knows how to unravel the mystery behind them. Speaking of mystery, his lips always smile that smile, mysterious yet charming, as if he knows everything, and you are but a part of his game. He always smiles that way, secretive Juan. His whole build is tall and thin, not muscular, no, he is the true librarian and therefore his body is build for reading and studying, not for fighting or lifting. But do not be fooled, if you ever see this man transform into the mighty, dark beast he is, he is nothing like his mortal shape. The animal is large to say least, it is strong and dangerous, the fur a dark shade of black, and the eyes burning with rage. His wolf shape has not been seen for several decades now, and he prefers it that way, since the wolf is a beast, a monster and only a problem.
His whole person is observing and quiet. He is polite and strict around students, and he enjoys time with himself rather than some fancy come together. Juan is a strange nut to crack and those close to him find his persona different when around friends than around strangers. Juan never speaks his mind unless appropriate for the situation, his whole world is surrounded by plots and schemes, things he best avoid is possible. Juan spends most of his time in the Library and he does not mind helping out students if they are polite and not demanding. He is a person of his own beliefs and he is quick to attack if someone questions his words and knowledge.
The wolf is his darkest secret and the animal inside him only rises with his temper. The animal is brutal and aggressive, demanding bloody sacrifices and brutal murders. His animal is nothing but a monster, a beast without mind or soul and he likes to keep this beast chained inside in hopes for it never to surface again.
It was so long ago, he used to sit by the clay well in the square of Venice, watching Giovanni, the stone artist, chisel grotesqueries for the churches. At least he would sit there until his mother would drag him away, chastising him for taking so long to bring the pitcher for water.
Giovanni, like Juan, liked to work in silence, but he also liked little Juan Alero. Sometimes they would talk for hours, and Giovanni would tell Juan about the gargoyles, as if they spoke to him. “They admit they are demons, you understand kid?” “Why does god let demons live?” Juan had asked. “Because only the legions of Hell knows how to be protect the sacred”
As with much of the words Giovanni had said, Juan didn’t understand the worlds the second it was spoken, but he always felt the truth of them.
“Child, the world will sully the mysteries. These creatures stand at our doorway to confront us, do you understand?” And Juan understood, and lived most of his adult life off those teaching words. Because he was taught many things by his mentor, he was taught of the demons, of the hell army, of the world’s demons and the evil. And when Giovanni died, Juan Alero found a new mentor. He studied by the best, subjects of religion and the world’s evil was most of the day’s subjects. He grew up like that, and he grew apart from his family. He was born a wolf, but they never found out, they died of old age, wondering where their son had run off to.
He lived a life of knowledge, only visited by few, three or four friends in his lifetime. He did not enjoy their company and would rather live alone. Until one day, he met her. Taking a stroll down the local park of Paris, he ran into a young woman. He himself being but a child from now, mortal years of nineteen, she was a year older if they had been mortal. Bianca was her name, Bianca D’Laure. He was minding his own business as she spoke to him, without a reason at all “They watch your heart, if it is pure, you can enter the gates of heaven, if not, the Gargoyles will take you”. He had faced her instantly; not knowing why she spoke those words so determinedly, the words of his first mentor, Giovanni. Those two lived together for as long as her lifespan could last, her getting old and Juan Alero staying the same. He cared for her and never left her side. Until one day, she never woke from her bed again. And Juan began to travel; he traveled the world until ending in the Swiss Alps. Standing on front of this building, centuries later, decades after his parent’s death, he noticed those gargoyles again. The bronze gargoyles, twice the size of Giovanni’s, might as well have snarled at him. And the school became his new home, his shelter and sanctuary.
Of strengths Juan has a few. His many years of life makes in intelligent and knowledgeable. He has seen things now destroyed, spoken with people now dead and loved what was unloved. Juan Alero is strong in his mind and his soul, his will is hard to break and his intelligence hard to match as a mere mortal.
His weaknesses match his strengths. His knowledge makes him untrusting, paranoid and ignorant of others. He is certain of his own success and therefore casts aside anyone trying to teach him anything.
He is also a loner and does not prefer company over silence. He is the wolf in heart and soul and the wolf is also a weakness. His own fear of becoming this monster makes him avoid arguments and fights, afraid his temper will make the beast appear to butcher those around him.
