Headmistress of Martilia

Appearance ::
Attitude :: Astrid has a somewhat unnervingly calm demeanor. Although her succubus blood is diluted, she still has the dective charm that her mother's people are known for. People lying to her feel compelled to tell the truth. (Not a bad talent for a headmistress!) To those who know her better she's a bit cynical, but a very down-to-earth and caring sort of person. When alone, she has a sad and distinctly tired air, as if the aging that her body hasn't showed since she was thirty has nonetheless caught up to her. She puts her students ahead of everything else, and makes sure to acquaint herself with all of them.
History :: Astrid grew up in the town of Couloir, where she would ultimately build the school. Her mother was a succubus, her father a human. She thought it was normal; everybody in town had some sort of odd family connections.
Upon turning eighteen, she started travelling the world. She was shocked and appalled to see the state of the world's nonhuman people. Most had been pushed away into the rapidly shrinking areas of wilderness. Some had managed to assimilate, but they had all been messy jobs, and the individuals regarded as somewhat crazy.
So sprung the idea of Martilia. She could create a school where humans and various nonhumans alike could mesh together. So, she started looking around for teachers; a careful mix of humans and otherwise. In the processes, she found love in an Austrian man- a human- named Alphonse Loehr.
Alphonse was everything she wanted in a man, and so she put off plans for a school in favor of pursuing a relationship with him. He proposed, and she happily accepted. However, all was not settled. Before they were to be married, she let him in on the "secret" of all of the nonhumans out there, and of her own heritage. Alphonse was- to make the understatement of a lifetime- not happy. He renounced her in a fit of rage, calling her crazy; a liar; a whore; his insults escalated as his temper rose. That was the end of that engagement. Astrid swore that she would never again fall into the irrationality of love; ironically, that same irrationality that her mother's people inpired by their mere presence.
She resumed her plans with renewed vigor; for she needed desperately to take her mind away from Alphonse's betrayal. She reasoned that this was proof that she needed human students; so that they could learn tolerence before their minds closed permanently. But this left a new problem: Who could adapt, and who were already too closedminded to accept reality? And so, she devised a system for monitoring applicants, to see which of them had promise.
She established the school in an old mansion just outside of town, naming it for her mother, Martilia Haas neƩ Zuelle. Human applicants were few at first, mostly local kids who knew Astrid personally or the children of human teachers. So, she started looking around for potential students, and sending them requests for interveiws. Most parents were impressed with the school, and it gradually gained prestige. But she always managed to balance the backgrounds of students; for every European billionaire's lonely child was a stifled teen from the Mexican slums. All of the students were hand-picked to mesh well with the rest of their class.
And so, the years went by. Classes graduated, entered into the world, and brought Martilia's name a bit more glory. Astrid watched them all grow up, the wounds on her heart slowly, very slowly, beginning to heal.
