Attitude :: Mia is a bit of a shy, mousy girl, much to the exasperation of her parents. She hates conflict, and so seeks to avoid it whenever possible. She doesn't like being in the spotlight, preferring to watch from the sidelines. Her voice is quiet, and even when she does talk, she's seldom heard. If anyone bothered to talk to her, they would see that she was a very sweet girl, and loyal. She just hasn't found somebody to be loyal to. Her daydreams show that she's a bit of a hopeless romantic.
History :: Mia and her twin brother, Pierre, are the only children of Armand Scott, the famous paper product billionare. Not that you could tell by looking at them. Pierre takes after his father, with the same love of taking huge risks with money. Mia, her parents say, when they thing she's not listening, must have been switched at birth.
Her parents were always trying to sculpt her into somebody she wasn't. They tried all sorts of phsycotherapy, but since she had no desire to change, those sessions didn't do much "good." Finally, her parents just gave up on her, giving all of their attention to Pierre. The twins were ten. Pierre was delighted to be instructed in business, since all he wanted to do was take it over when his father retired. Mia was equally happy; her parents- mostly her father, but her mother too- made her feel nervous.
Therefore, nobody was more surprised than she when she recieved the blue envelope of acceptance from Martilia. She had only applied because her parents thought that they would look bad if only one of the twins did, even though there was- so they thought- no chance of her getting in. But get in she did, and Pierre was flat-out rejected. This confused her- hadn't Pierre always been the smart one? The charismatic one? The one who needed the advance education, because he was going to be somebody, not just a little wallflower like her?
The more shocking thing, in her mind, was the fact that she was secretly glad to have gotten in. She had no idea why; it was a boarding school, completely alien to her, with no familiar faces or places. But something about that little town of Couloir made her feel more at ease than she had in fourteen years of living in Ontario. Her brother hadn't liked the place. While they were touring the campus, he kept yawning and glancing at his watch. He also hadn't like the headmistress, who had interveiwed both of them. He claimed that that way she looked at him gave him a headache, and thought that a woman of her age- he assumed her to be in her late twenties, though she's actually sixty-seven- had no business running a school. Mia, for her part, had been entranced by the woman. She looked young, but to Mia she seemed ageless and wise. Her parents had agreed with Pierre (as usual), and so she kept her mouth shut (as usual).
Now, waiting for the school year to start, Mia is filled with a mixture of apprehension and exitement. What lay in store for her, in the prestigious Martilia High...?
